Khundroo, Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec. 14 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday said that normalisation of relationship with Pakistan would depend upon Pakistan's stopping to provide a safe haven to militant groups.

Addressing an election rally, Prime Minister Singh said: "Our desire to normalise relations with our neighbour will not get fulfilled until our neighbour prevents its land from being used for terrorist activities against India."

PM said that India was open to better ties with Pakistan but it depended on the neighbour to take action against terrorist groups such as those involved in Mumbai terror attack.

"There are some people in Pakistan who are always ready to carry out such attacks against our country. Pakistan must keep its situation under control," said Prime Minister Singh.

Singh said that all pending issues could be solved by talks. "All issues including Jammu and Kashmir can be resolved through dialogue. Borders cannot be changed, but restrictions over them can be reduced and their significance brought down."

In a reference to the so far improved relations with Pakistan, Singh said: "People are now coming here from Pakistan occupied Kashmir to meet their relatives and people also go across from here. Trade routes have been opened up and we are exploring the possibility of opening up more routes."

The election rally was organised as part of campaigning for the sixth round of elections in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
