Manipal students ready to race their “Formula Manipal Racing Car 2009” in Formula SAE competition, Silverstone Successfully developing a formula racing car in the previous year, Students of Manipal Institute of Technology (M.I.T or ManipalTech or M.I.T. Manipal), Karnataka, have done it again this year. Yes, the M.I.T lads are ready to race their new creation (formula racing car) in the Formula SAE (FSAE) competition, slated to be held at Silverstone, London, United Kingdom, from July 16, 2009 (Thursday) to July 19, 2009 (Sunday).

The newly created formula racing car and the team of the ManipalTech students are already in London to take part in the Formula SAE (FSAE) competition – the student based engineering design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

The formula racing car designed by the ManipalTech students is black beauty with yellow stripes. The car has been designed and manufactured in the Automobile workshop of Manipal University by the ManipalTech students, who were guided by Faculty adviser Dr K. Jagannath, Professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engg, M.I.T.

The new Formula Manipal Car 2009, which is the second variant of last year’s Formula Manipal car, launched by Dr Ramdas M Pai, the chancellor of M.I.T, was uncovered, at a ceremony, by MIT director, Brig D Somnath Mishra, in the presence of Dr N Yagnesh Sharma, the head of mechanical and manufacturing engineering, and Dr K Jagannath, Formula Manipal Car ‘09 faculty advisor.     

The 30 students who have been the part of Formula Manipal team (2009) include Rachit Mathur (leader of the team), Eklavya Singh, Avinash Kulkarni, Sumit Saurav, Nishanth Jain , Maurya Modi , Allen Jose George, Vaibhav Kumar, Chandan Meharia, Ruchir Gupta, Manan Gupta, Vikas Balasubramaniam, Saras Satyam, Aditya Agrarwal, Moses Pezarkar, Pratik Shukla, Gagandeep Singh Lamb, Anirudh Raut, Pradeep Pandurangi, Rahul Verma, Sambhav Gupta, Viren Bhanot,  Ritayan Chatterje, Anant Mittal, Siddarth Sonti, Dhawal Bavishi, Shadab Khan, Anant Subramanian, Atul Kumar Singh, and Roshan S.

Dr K. Jagannath has told that these students are from various Branches of Engg and studying in different semesters. Some of these students also participated last year’s project, while some are freshers.

According to Dr K. Jagannath, students from renowned tech universities of the world take part in the Formula SAE (FSAE) competition, which offers a great congregation of technology and engineering professionals of the world. The competition provides great opportunity to students to share their knowledge and expertise.
