Lt. Col. Jagmohan Balbir Singh Arrested For Child Pornography
Lt. Col. Jagmohan Balbir Singh has been arrested in Mumbai by the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch police on Thursday for uploading sexually explicit effiges and clippings of kids on child pornography internet sites.
The 42-year-old will be kept in police custody till May 12.
Mr. Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) said that Singh was charged under Section 67 B of the Information Technology Act.
"We had information from international agencies of the possibility of a child pornography suspect in India and in Mumbai. Our Cyber Cell started the investigation and arrested him [Lt. Col Singh] after due verification. On questioning, he admitted to having committed the offence. He has been doing it for a few years. The more serious offence is uploading pornographic images and clips of children on some well-known child pornographic sites," Mr. Himanshu said.
It was the German police force who first made out the doings from Mumbai on a server situated in the US. They forwarded a report to the International law enforcement agency that in turn sent it to the CBI Delhi, and later to the Mumbai Crime Branch.
The Cyber Cell chased the server movement to the Internet Protocol (IP) address of Lt. Col Singh.
The police officials arrested Singh from his house at Colaba, where he lives with his family members. They also found two hard disks of 80 GB each.
Balbir Singh would be interrogated regarding the source of the stuff he transferred; if he had sent it to others and if there were any accomplices.
The officials have informed the Army regarding the arrest and would present a written statement to the Army and the CBI.
Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) Captain Manohar Nambiar said over phone, "Lt. Col. Jagmohan Singh, a serving officer, was on study leave since June 2009."
