King Khan To Don Malaysian Knighthood On Dec 6
Ace Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan will finally get his delayed Malaysian "knighthood" on December 6 from Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob. The actor will receive his Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) award at a ceremony at 10am at Dewan Seri Negri, Ayer Keroh.
Earlier, Khan was expected to arrive here on November 29 to receive the “Datukship” title. But due to the tight working schedule of the Indian actor, the state has decided to honor him next month.
Speaking on this, Omar Kaseh, State Secretary said, “From the beginning (Shah Rukh) had agreed to come to Malacca and gave several dates but the ones given were not suitable for the state as they fell on work days.”
The official further added that Khan would arrive at 7.30am and proceed to the ceremony wearing the traditional official black Malay costume and a songkok to receive the award.
Along with 77 people, SRK was awarded the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) last month by the state of Malacca. The award carries the title Datuk, which is considered parallel to a British knighthood. Bollywood actors do have a large number of their fans in Malaysia.
However, many people in the country do not prefer SRK for this prestigious award. According to them, instead of SRK, this prestigious award should be given to the local artists and celebrities. Some had even questioned if the star knew where Malacca was.
It must be recalled that SRK movie ‘One 2 Ka 4’ in the year 2001 was filmed at a popular resort in Malacca. Since then, the number of tourists coming from India has increased considerably in the country.
