Kanpur plastic factory gutted in major blaze

Kanpur, Apr 15: A massive fire broke out in Kanpur around 12:00 a. m. on Tuesday, gutting down a plastic factory and causing huge loss to property.

Most parts of Kanpur were reeling under a power cut after the fire broke out.

According to an eyewitness, those living in the vicinity of the plastic factory came out of their houses as the flames engulfed the entire factory.

"I was sitting on the terrace because of a powercut. Suddenly, I saw flames leaping from the neighbouring plastic factory. Then within minutes, the fire engulfed the entire building," said Kamal Kant.

Kant said the fire authorities took around three hours to bring the fire under control.

"This plastic factory caught fire during the early morning hours. Our main job was to stop the fire from spreading to the neighbouring buildings. There have been no casualties," said R. N. Prashad, a fire officer.

Since the factory was closed down at that time, there were no labourers working and so no casualties have been reported.

Preliminary investigations rule out the possibility of a short circuit as the cause of the fire since there was a power cut during that time in the area.

Further investigations are on to ascertain the cause of the fire. (ANI)
