Jammu-Srinagar Highway remains closed due to heavy snowfall
Udhampur, Dec 29 : The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH 1A) remained closed on Saturday due to heavy snowfall, leaving traders stranded amid chaos and traffic blockage.
Truck drivers said they are facing major problems due to the shutdown of the highway and were stuck midway without food and water.
"We have been stopped here but no basic facilities like food and water has been provided. We are facing lot of problems. The government is aware that we face this problem every year but still no arrangements are made for us," said Bilal, a truck driver.
Unending queue of vehicles stranded on the highway was seen with travellers carrying their luggage with great difficulty as the situation compelled them to walk to their destination.
Around two feet of snow accumulated on the highway near Qazigund area after heavy snowfall during the last night. (ANI)
