Jammu part of freedom movement, says Mirwaiz

Reiterating that his organisation was ready to take the people of Jammu along, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference, on Thursday said the freedom movement should involve people of all religions.

“The freedom movement is not only of Muslims. People from Hindu, Sikh and other communities are also part of it,” he told a gathering at the Jamia Masjid in Bhaderwah, Doda.

On a three-day visit to Doda and Kishtwar districts, the Mirwaiz said: “At every place, whether at the Organization of Islamic Countries conference or in America, I talk about the people of Jammu. They are an inseparable part of the freedom struggle.”

Going back to his demand that India and Pakistan must involve representatives of Kashmir, he said: “We are ready for meaningful talks that involve all three.”

But, he said, before any dialogue, India had to fulfil some conditions. “India should release all political prisoners, revoke draconian laws and open all road links between the two J&K sides.”
