Islamabad HC dismisses petition demanding Musharraf’s name put on ECL

Islamabad HC dismisses petition demanding Musharraf’s name put on ECLIslamabad, Nov 19 : The Islamabad High Court has reportedly dismissed a petition calling for the name of former president Pervez Musharraf to be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL), saying the petition was inadmissible.

Besides Musharraf, the petitioner had also sought to place the name of State Bank Governor Dr Shamshad Akhtar also on the ECL. Earlier the same petitioner had challenged Dr Akhtar’s appointment as Governor.

Rejecting the petition, the court said that the same applicant could not file two separate petitions regarding the same person.

The court observed that the applicant had already challenged Dr Shamshad’s appointment as the governor of the central bank, and said a fresh petition was therefore not needed in the same matter – automatically dismissing the request for Musharraf’s name to be included in the ECL, reported the Daily Times.

In his earlier plea, the petitioner had said Dr Shamshad did not have the credentials required for the post, and had ‘failed’ to stabilise the crumbling economy. In the petition against the appointment of the State Bank governor, the court has already sought a reply from Dr Shamshad. (ANI)
