IPL certain to be included in next FTP
The popularity of lucrative and cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL) is increasing day by day. IPL has been taking shape of an international tournament with more and more players interested to be a part of it.
It has also increased concerns of various cricket boards due to which it is almost certain that the International Cricket Council (ICC) would provide a separate window for IPL in its next Future Tour Programme (FTP).
New Zealand Cricket Board had already demanded for including IPL into FTP after Kiwi players were looking reluctant to sign their national contract due to clash of IPL and another tournament. Although, they decided to serve their nation but it showed the impact of IPL on these players.
IPL could not be included in the current FTP but there is possibility of providing window for IPL in the next FTP- 2012-18, which would be finalized in next few months.
Another issue related with providing window for IPL is that England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand cricket boards have been planning to start their own T20 leagues and if IPL would be included in FTP, then these boards would also demand for window for their respective leagues.
