Inside “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal”
John Abraham has once again shown excellence in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. John forms an endearing match with Bipasha Basu in film.
Spectacularly filmed, the green vistas of Agnihotri's London locales fill the screen with a vigor vim and virility that go well with the mood of this sporty slick and sometimes spiffy tale of sportsmanship, racism, brotherhood and victory against all odds.
There is everything that a director can do with a sports film. It is about some semi-losers facing up to all odds to emerge winners in the climactic game.
There have to be warring groups and a burnt-out disgraced coach Boman Irani in spirit to win. The spirit of Chak De India haunts Goal, but Goal has several interludes and episodes very different from Chak De. The line of actions is aggressive.
The war between football teams and among members of the same team, are aligned with acidic remarks and barbed comments that bring into notice the slanted racist slurs that operate beneath the spirit of sportsmanship in a country that has many kinds of cultures and people co-existing uneasily under the prosperous veneer.
The ideas on inequality and on-field aggression occupy centerstage in Vivek Agnihotri’s film. John-Bipasha relationship here is more fun. Watch Bipasha make space for herself in this boys-will-be-boys tale of triumphant sportsmanship. She finds her métier without jostling or over-acting.
John in the author-backed role holds his own, instilling a sense of averted peril in all his rugged scenes and a softening –down in his romantic scenes.
The film’s back bone is the John-Arshad rivalry. Arshad once again proves himself the unstoppable scenestealer. Displaying wrath and cynicism, he plays the field in Goal with consummate aplomb.
The premiere party of Goal was held at suburban multiplex, stars of the film - John Abraham and Bipasha Basu and Arshad Warsi who came along with his ever-cheerful wife Maria Goretti. In fact, John and Bips walked in much before!
Looking dazzling as ever, the couple was the toast of the evening, and the center of everyone’s attention.
Also at party were, Anurag Kashyap with his family, Ramesh Sippy and wife Kiran Joneja. Yuktaa Mookhey, however, was spotted more outside the theatre than inside it, catching up with friends!
