India to negotiate with Singapore, Sri Lanka for additional seat entitlements

India to negotiate with Singapore, Sri Lanka for additional seat entitlements India's civil aviation ministry is planning to negotiate with some foreign governments, including Singapore and Sri Lanka, for additional seat entitlement as seats quota peaked after Kingfisher Airlines stripped of foreign traffic rights.

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Monday confirmed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had been asked to take action to allot the domestic and international rights of Kingfisher Airlines to other airlines. The move will make an estimated of 25,000 additional seats available to rival carriers per week.

On Tuesday, Mr. Singh said that ministry was planning to enter into fresh negotiations with the governments of Singapore and Sri Lanka to seek additional seats as seat entitlements available with Indian carriers for those countries were almost exhausted.

A civil aviation ministry said that Indian carrier were demanding more seat entitlements for cities like Hong Kong, Bangkok, Dubai and Singapore.

However, the minister also declared that the ministry would not negotiate with countries for additional seat entitlements until carriers exhaust their existing entitlements.

The civil aviation ministry is also making final preparations to open new routes by allowing Indian carriers to start services to Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Moscow, Sydney, Nairobi, Al Najaf, Jakarta, Macao, Zurich and Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, Indian carriers do not serve to these cities.
