ICANN approves Arabic domains in UAEThe Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), in response to the request made by the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA), has given its nod for using the string 'emarat' as the official Arabic top-level domain for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The move would help to strengthen and promoting the identity of UAE besides adding popularity element for surfing Arabic sites. Currently, the '.ae' English domain address is popular for UAE's websites which was established by TRA for meeting the technical and administrative standards laid down by the international regulator.

ICANN is an international body which manages the domain names and assigned numbers for websites. Other country specific agencies ensure the rules set by ICCAN for regulating the nomenclature pertaining to internet utilities.
