IA pilots call off proposed strike

Indian Commercial Pilots’ AssociationIndian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA), a Union of pilots of Indian Airlines has dropped the idea to go on strike following assurance by management to pay heed to their genuine demands, particularly related to pay and incentives.

Both parties are meeting again on Monday at the office of Chief Labour Commissioner for taking next course of action.

Aviation Secretary M M Nambiar is said to have played a crucial role to dissolve the standoff between management and union, urging airline to implement revival plan.

ICPA Chief Shailendra Singh added, “The management has agreed to our legitimate demands and there will be no strike now. Issues like examining the mismanagement of AI-IA, which has got the company to its present state and having some commonality for IA and AI pilots, have been agreed.’’

National carrier, Indian Airlines, having the largest pool of CAT III trained pilots, operates a large number of flights at different national and international routes each winter. The proposed strike from Monday midnight could derail its operation, affecting its revenue and causing inconvenience to passengers.
