I will not support any political party, says Musharraf
Islamabad, Dec 1: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that he would not support any particular political party in the January 8 general elections.
Musharraf, who took oath as a civilian president on November 29, said that all political parties would be provided a level-playing field.
He said this while talking to a five-member US Senate delegation headed by Robert Bennet who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadar, the Daily Times reported.
Congratulating Musharraf for assuming the presidential office, the delegation hailed his plan to lift the emergency, adding that more was needed to be done.
Musharraf assured the delegation that polls would be transparent, and the government would welcome international observers to monitor the elections.
According to a Pakistan Foreign Office statement, Pakistan-US relations, counter terrorism and the recent political developments in the country were discussed during the meeting.
Meanwhile, a US congressional delegation led by Bob Corker also called on Musharraf. (ANI)
