HP’s acquisition of Palm an uphill task
Hewlett-Packard, s recent acquisition of Palm was not an easy affair as they had to fight four other bidders to obtain Palm.
Rumors claim that Palm had 16 companies in stock for its take. The closest ones that reached near to the acquisition were HP and Lenovo. Three other biggies involved were Dell, Huawei and HTC - who wished to take Palm patents, including the webOS.
HP said that it initially offered a sum of $1 billion to Palm, while an unnamed rival offered $600 million in cash, but was denied, making HP wear the crown and offering a share price of $5.70 per share that led to the closure of the deal. Palm was unable to gear itself with shares and surrendered itself to the iPhone and Google's Android mobile phone OS. This was finally closed with a $1.2 billion deal by HP.
