Hewlett-Packard launches its ProLiant G6 server line in India

HP ProLiant G6 server lineThe world's largest provider of IT products and services, Hewlett-Packard yesterday launched its ProLiant G6 server line in the Indian market. The Hewlett-Packard claimed that the new line of its ProLiant G6 servers is equipped with new technology that helps doubling the performance of new servers, against the previous generation servers.

According to Rajesh Dhar, Director, Industry Standard Servers, HP India Sales, the new line of its ProLiant G6 servers is energy efficient, consuming half the power, compared to the previous generation servers. The new servers feature power 'capping' function for better management of energy. The G6 line of servers is equipped with sensors to track heat and automatically start the cooling fans to manage heat and enhance efficiency. The memory and storage of the new servers is twofold more that the previous generation servers.

Mr. Dhar said that the new ProLiant G6 server, capable of helping data centers save around 50 per cent of running costs, in comparison with the previous generation of servers, is specifically developed for mediocre and large businesses that run big data centers, and with more speed, memory, and less power consumption, the G6 servers will benefit small and medium businesses.

Commenting on the G6 line of servers, Mr. Dhar said, "Now more than ever, customers want the best possible return on their server investments. Building on HP's long history of hardware and software development, G6 brings together the best HP innovations in energy efficiency, virtualization and services to enable our customers to do more with less."

"The G6 servers come with a 'dynamic power manager' software to adjust power flow according to usage and effect power savings," said V. Ramachandran, Product Manager.

The ProLiant G6 features - HP Sea of Sensors, a collection of 32 smart sensors for automatically tracking thermal activity of the servers, Common Power Slot for minimizing power waste, and HP Dynamic Power Capping for efficient management of energy. The HP ProLiant G6 servers come on 11 platforms and cost Rs. 25,000 upwards.

Mr. Dhar explained why HP chose to launch the ProLiant G6 server line first in India, because India is presently the largest markets in Asia-Pacific. Mr. Dhar said, "With annual growths of 15 to 18 per cent and third largest in Asia-Pacific in terms of units sold, India is a major market for us. India comes 4th in the region in revenues."
