Handicrafts fair generates Rs.750-cr business
Noida, Oct 13 : Business worth Rs. 750 crore was generated at the four-day handicrafts exposition near Greater Noida that ended Tuesday, according to the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).
"Despite recessionary trend, the footfall of more overseas buyers and orders worth over Rs. 750 crore have been booked," said EPCH chairman Raj Kumar Malhotra at the conclusion of the Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) Autumn 2009.
"It certainly shows a turnaround in the handicraft sector as the last year's edition of the fair had registered a business of around Rs. 525 crore," added Malhotra.
The exposition, held twice a year -- in February and October and known as IHGF Spring and IHGF Autumn -- is organised by EPCH, a nodal export promotion body for handicrafts set up under the aegis of the textiles ministry. (IANS)
