Govt to respond positively to Nawaz Sharif’s conciliatory stance: Pervez Musharraf

Islamabad, Oct 13 : President Pervez Musharraf Nawaz Sharifhas said that if former premier Nawaz Sharif demonstrates a conciliatory attitude after the election, the government would respond positively.

Replying a question about the politicians’ homecoming, Musharraf said that he wants an amicable environment in the country, so they should not return to Pakistan with an attitude of confrontation.

Musharraf reiterated that the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) is not a party-specific law, but it has been enacted to create positive political environment and end the politics of victimisation.

"There was an era of political victimisation and confrontation from Year 1988 to 1999 in which cases were registered against political opponents but this government wants to get rid of this culture," he said in an interview.

He said that the government has decided to withdraw all cases that were pending for the last 15 years, due to which the government has offered the amnesty.

The News quoted him as saying that a committee has been constituted to decide the merit of these cases, and added that all baseless cases will be withdrawn. (ANI)
