Google rolling out Google Play gift cards, stocking them at US retailers
Google recently made an announcement on the Google+ page of its Google Play store that it is rolling out gift cards which can be used by customers to purchase music, movies, apps, and ebooks from its digital marketplace. The cards cannot be used for subscriptions or for buying hardware or accessories.
Revealing that the company has already started stocking the Google Play gift cards at popular US retailers, Google said in the announcement that the cards will be sold by Target, RadioShack, and GameStop in the coming weeks; while Walmart. com will start selling them by the end of the month. However, the company has not given any timeline for the release of the gift cards in other countries.
As per the information shared by Google, the Google Play gift cards will be available in $10, $25, and $50 denominations; and can also be used from in-app purchases in games. The cards - which will have no fees and no expiry date - will have a redemption code underneath a scratch-off panel.
The redemption code can be entered by the users either on the Google Play website or on their mobile devices. The users will also be able to enter the code online, by going to play. google. com/redeem. The funds will be transferred to the Google Play balance, which has an upper limit of $2000 and can be stocked up only when gift cards are used.
