Google gets approval for driverless car
Internet giant, Google has received an approval for its driverless car and tests will be carried out in the roads of Nevada in the US.
The authorities in Nevada gave its approval to Google's license to test a driverless Toyota Prius on the roads in the state. The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, which approval the license, said that it is the first of its kind approval given in the country under the new laws and regulations.
The new license plates on the driverless vehicles will have a red background and feature an infinity symbol on the left side so that it can be distinguished from other vehicles on the road in the state. Other carmakers have expressed interest in testing their autonomous vehicles but Google has become the first company to apply and get the approval for testing its cars.
The department said that its Autonomous Review Committee discussed Google's safety plans, employee training, system functions and accident-reporting mechanisms after successful tests were carried out along freeways, state highways and neighborhoods in Carson City and along the Las Vegas Strip. Department director Bruce Breslow said in a statement that the use of infinity symbol was the best way to symbolize the future car.
The statement also said, "The unique red plate will be easily recognized by the public and law enforcement, and will be used only for licensed autonomous test vehicles. When there comes a time that vehicle manufacturers market autonomous vehicles to the public, that infinity symbol will appear on a green license plate."
