Islamabad, Feb. 24 : Burying their differences, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif have decided to work together to promote democratic traditions.

At a meeting at the Prime Minister's residence here, both leaders decided to resolve their issues, and agreed not to issue aggressive statements against each other.

Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Gilani urged workers of both parties (PPP and PML-N) to work together.

"The leaders and workers of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had made sacrifices such as exile, imprisonment, political victimisation and martyrdom for the restoration of democracy in the country. Therefore, they should work jointly for the supremacy of parliament, promoting democratic traditions and national reconciliation," The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.

Referring to the recent statements issued by the leaderships of both parties, Gilani assured there was no plan to topple the Punjab government.

"The federal government does not want to dismantle the Punjab Government", he said.

Commenting on the proposed lawyers' march next month, to which different political parties have given their support, Gilani said holding peaceful protests is the democratic right of every citizen, and the government would not oppose it . (ANI)
