Gilani confirms arrest of two Lashkar members
Multan, Dec. 10 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani confirmed on Wednesday that two senior members of Lashkar-e-Taiba have been arrested.
"The two have been arrested and an investigation is under way," the Dawn quoted Gilani as telling journalists in response to a question about Lashkar members Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah.
Gilani said the two, who are both senior members of the banned group, were being questioned.
The Prime Minister also said that Pakistan is a responsible state. He urged the international community not to jump to any conclusions regarding the Mumbai carnage, until a proper investigation was completed.
He also said that a report on Maulana Masood Azhar was still pending. Therefore, it would be premature to comment on allegations of his involvement in the attacks.
Responding to a question, Gilani said that Pakistan has put on hold a UN resolution regarding former ISI chief General (retd) Hamid Gul.
The prime minister added that terrorism has no boundaries and he reiterated Pakistan's resolve against global terrorism in all its forms.
Gilani also denied that Pakistan was responding to pressure from India.
"Whatever action we take will be in the interest of the country and its people," he told a press conference in his hometown, Multan.
"If Indian intelligence send us their findings, we will investigate accordingly. Until then, we cannot comment," he said. (ANI)
