Sunday was the lucky day for West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Pawan. They narrowly escaped a powerful explosion on their way to Kalaichandi in Paschim Medinipur district. Police raised fingers on Maoists for the explosion.

Both leaders were returning from Salboni to Kolkata. They were in the town to attend foundation laying function of a mega steel plant established by Jindal Steel.

Researchers have found that patients with fibromyalgia have characteristic changes in the brain, which don’t show up on images and scans of muscles and bones, can be seen in single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scans. Patients suffering from fibromyalgia have often been dubbed hypochondriacs and left to deal with the pain characteristic of the disease.

Now, BSNL customers can avail lower ISD call rates for the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (Saarc) countries. The state-run telecom company slashed call rates by 15-35 percent on Sunday. The decision would cover landline as well as mobile customers.

The call rates for Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Bhutan would be Rs.9 per minute instead of the existing Rs.10 under post-paid plan of Rs 725.

Call charges for BSNL fixed line users would now be Rs.9.60 per minute for a 7.5 second pulse.

Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh would hold a meeting with the industry leaders and associates on Monday. The meeting is aimed to review the impact of global financial crisis on Indian economy and prepare India's stance at forthcoming G20 Summit.

After the decision of Indian steel giant Steel Authority of India Limited to cut steel prices, other steel companies have started to slash prices. JSW Steel took the initiative and reduced the prices of HR coils by Rs 5,500 a tonne. The company had already reduced steel prices in October.

It has reduced steel prices by 25-30 percent. The company said in a statement that it would go for price reduction according to the prices in the international market. The recent reduction in steel prices would check the import of steel and it would be available in domestic market at reasonable prices.
