Study Claims That Cancer Can Be Detected Through Presence Of Proteins In Blood

U.S researches reported on Monday that lung cancer can be detected as early as a year before the symptoms emerge, by analyzing the blood for particular proteins.  

According to the research conducted on the blood samples taken from the smokers, it was found that  three proteins or antigens were present in more than half of the people who later developed lung cancer.  

Dr. Samir Hanash of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle said “The fact that we got a signal like this with just three biomarkers is very significant.”

Agreement Of Health Net And California Regulators On Health Insurance

Health Net has agreed with California department of insurance that they will pay $3.6 million in penalties and $14 million in refund for medical charges .Both of the departments have agreed to a settlement of about $25 million over handling allegations of unfair claims and annual health coverage.

California Department of Insurance said in a news release, they would also offer replacement healthcare coverage to926 people whose policies were rescinded by Woodland Hills a California based company since 2004.

Better literate people are also more successful in finding life-long partners. This study was conducted by the National Literacy Trust. The satisfaction levels were also higher in literate people.

This study showed that 43 per cent of people with poor literacy (equal to a seven-year-old) are living alone as compared to 30 per cent who have enough reading skills to attain a grade C or above in a GCSE.

Study Offers Hope To Patients Suffering From Genetic Disease Cystic Fibrosis

According to statistics, around 8,000 people in the UK suffer from the genetic disease cystic fibrosis (CF). CF produces thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and the pancreas, leading to life-threatening chest infections and problems with digestion presently there is no cure for this disease. There are medications to ease symptoms of this disease but currently there are no medications to cure it fully.

The recent research by the researchers at the University of Bristol has offered a ray of hope to patients suffering from CF. They have developed a new drug to cure cystic fibrosis. Presence of CF can be detected by 'salty sweat', which is caused by the failure of the sweat ducts to reabsorb sweat.
