Health, Heart Rates To Be Monitored Via ‘Smart fabrics’Taking a step further towards the advancements in medical science, researchers are quite close to developing a simple, low-cost method to create ‘smart fabrics’ which would be capable of detecting diseases, monitoring heart rates, and other vital signs.

It has been informed by the US and Chinese reseachers Nicholas A. Kotov, Chuanlai Xu and colleagues that electronic textiles, or e-textiles, already are a reality.

Melbourne, December 13: Facebook has apparently started to leave its impact on judicial systems also, with the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory ruling that a default judgement can be served on defendants by notification on the social networking website.

This is believed to be the first instance when any court in the world has ordered the use of a social networking website for serving a default judgement on the defendant, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

A default judgement is given by the court where the defendant does not appear in court to defend the case. Once the court awards it, the plaintiff must serve it on the defendant, which is usually done by way of personal service or post.

It has been learnt that waste coffee contains between 11% and 20% percent oil by weight, which is about as much as virgin biofuel oils like palm and soybean.

A whopping 8 million barrels of biodiesel annually could be created via all of the spent coffee grounds generated worldwide, or roughly a third of the daily oil consumption of the U.S.

Gerhard Richter's JFK assassination portraits to be shown for first time

London, Dec 12: German artist Gerhard Richter’s portraits painted in regard to the assassination of President Kennedy will be shown at the National Portrait Gallery''s flagship spring exhibition for the first time ever.

The collection has one painting of Jacqueline Kennedy being consoled by President Johnson, another of her clutching an umbrella and looking shocked, and a third of assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.

The first painting has never before been exhibited in public, and as per curator Paul Moorhouse it was a private “working proof” that Richter created it while forming his ideas for the other two, which he had intended to display.

Peace talks with Congolese rebels to restart next week

Nairobi - UN-brokered peace talks between Congolese rebels and the government aimed at cementing a lasting ceasefire have been suspended and will resume on December 17, the UN's special peace envoy to the Democratic Republic of Congo has said.

Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo said in statement late Thursday that "steady progress" was being made on agreeing ground rules for later substantive talks.

Tutsi rebel group the National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) and DR Congo officials arrived in Kenyan capital Nairobi on Monday for the first direct talks aimed at resolving the conflict.

However, neither CNDP leader Laurent Nkunda nor Congolese President Joseph Kabila attended the meeting.
