Barcelona  - Barcelona are reportedly willing to make a huge offer to get Samuel Eto'o to remain within its ranks until 2014, although the Cameroon striker's future remained shrouded in mystery.

"The player asks to earn 9 million euros (11.4 million dollars) per season. Barcelona would be willing to get close to that figure because they think the Cameroon player should be paid in accordance with his quality, although Leo Messi would remain the best-paid footballer in the squad," the daily Sport reported Monday.

Rio de Janeiro  - A violent Sunday left one person dead and over 40 injured in clashes between rival football hooligans in the Brazilian cities of Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte, the authorities said Monday.

The most serious incident happened in Belo Horizonte, where a 20- year-old supporter of Atletico Mineiro was shot dead. Two people shot him from a motorbike while he waited at a bus stop to go to the Mineirao stadium, where his team was to play Cruzeiro.

Rome  - David Beckham appears to have promptly recovered from a muscular injury suffered at the weekend and AC Milan included him in the lineup for a first-leg UEFA Cup game set for Wednesday at Werder Bremen.

The 33-year-old English midfielder left the pitch limping during the city derby that the Devils lost 2-1 to Inter Milan late Sunday.

Beckham in late December joined Milan from Los Angeles Galaxy on a loan deal that will end on March 8. Coach Carlo Ancelotti has made him a mainstay in Milan's midfield, which convinced England coach Fabio Capello to call him up for an international friendly last week.

Lisbon  - Young Argentine winger Angel Di Maria is not a regular starter at Benfica, but he got wide-spread praise on Monday for a goal from 35 metres.

"Brilliant," said the sports daily A Bola of the Argentine's performance in Benfica's 3-2 win Sunday at home against Pacos de Ferreira in the Portuguese championship.

"It was a goal from another world," A Bola said.

Fellow sports daily Record, in turn, described the shot that made the score 3-1 with just three minutes of play remaining as the "Di Maria bomb."

London, Feb. 16 : England midfielder David Beckham has told his A C Milan team-mates that he will not be going back to LA Galaxy.

Despite pressure being piled on the 33 year-old star by Galaxy and the bosses of the MLS, Beckham is adamant that his future lies in Italy.

According to The Sun, Milan teammates are impressed by Beckham''s determination to call Galaxy''s bluff - even though it will cost him money.

The Americans demanded that a permanent deal had to be concluded by last Friday. But there was no legal basis for that deadline.

Switzerland - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday announced that they had extended the bans on two Maltese football players.

Ryan Grech, Malta international Claude Mattocks and Gilbert Martin tested positive for various prohibited substances and were banned for nine months, four months and a year respectively.

Football's controlling body FIFA, as well as the world anti-doping agency WADA appealed to CAS and asked for the bans to be extended to two years.

CAS said in a statement on Monday that they had partially upheld the appeal.
