Spurs announce new stadium plan

London - Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Thursday that they intend to press ahead with plans for the construction of a 60,000-capacity stadium near White Hart Lane.

Results released to the stock market revealed details of a large-scale plan that would also incorporate leisure facilities and housing.

"The scheme includes the current site and adjoining land with the stadium sited largely to the north of the existing one," chairman Daniel Levy explained in his statement.

The club has a waiting list of 22,000 for season-tickets, and considered a 70,000-capacity proposal, but were keen to remain close to their Haringey home.

Hoffenheim seek to keep momentum as Bayern give chase

Hoffenheim seek to keep momentum as Bayern give chaseHamburg - Bundesliga leaders Hoffenheim will be seeking a fifth straight win when lowly Karlsruhe are the visitors on Saturday, while champions Bayern Munich are beginning to put the pressure on.

Juergen Klinsmann's side face visiting Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday following three successive wins which keep them within four points of surprise side Hoffenheim.

Leaders Liverpool face resurgent Spurs

London - Harry Redknapp has been Tottenham Hotspur manager less that a week, but already he has inspired them to their first victory of the season, and an astonishing comeback from 4-2 down to draw against Arsenal in the north London derby.

On Saturday he will be hoping for an even bigger surprise as his side face the league leaders Liverpool at White Hart Lane.

It may be bottom against top, but given Spurs' new-found confidence, this is far from a foregone conclusion.

It's going to be a long season, but there was a great atmosphere in that dressing room," Redknapp said.

"I've tried to make them believe in themselves. There's ability in the squad. Bring on Liverpool. We'll give them a good go on Saturday.

Villarreal keen to put cup shock behind them

Madrid - Villarreal can hardly wait for Saturday to come.

That's when they will have the chance to put their awful recent form behind them, away to lowly Athletic Bilbao.

The normally solid Villarreal defence began to show signs of vulnerability in last week's 6-3 defeat of Euro minnows Aalborg. Sunday saw the "Yellow Submarine" shipping water, when Atletico Madrid forced a bizarre 4-4 draw in El Madrigal.

And the submarine was sent to the bottom of Davy Jones' Locker on Wednesday, when Villarreal were astonishingly thrashed 5-0 in the King's Cup by third divsion Polideportivo Ejido.
