Foundation aiming to plant million new saplings during ‘Tu Bishvat’
The Jewish National Fund has claimed that a total of more than 600,000 new saplings were planted over the holiday weekend this Tu Bishvat or Israel's Arbor Day, setting a new record.
The Jewish National Fund has also said that the week-long activities associated with Tu Bishvat, will see planning of one million new saplings in forests and parks across different parts of Israel. It is known that when the restoration work began in Israel, the country was mostly on barren land, which is now being transformed into lush green forests.
The Jewish National Fund has played a key role in planting of saplings around the country and is credited for the creation of green landscapes around Israel. JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzle said that one million new saplings will be planted over the week as part of the activities to mark Tu Bishvat. This will have a significant impact on the Middle Eastern country's environment and larger ecosystem.
The fund is also working with other like-minded associations for the restoration of the Carmel Forest. It organises Forester for a Day program in association with KKL, allowing tourists to take part in the restoration of the forest.
