Several international and domestic waste management firms lined up to get the project of handling waste in Mumbai Metropolitan region at Taloja. Total 37 companies made their bid, among them 15 are foreign and 22 are domestic. Foreign companies who applied for the project are based in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Austria and United States of America.

This will be region's first scientifically run landfill spread across 117 hectares. Additional metropolitan commissioner Ashwini Bhide said "The 117-hectare regional solid waste management project to be developed at Taloja is expected to clear about 2,000metric tonnes of solid waste daily from the four municipal corporations of Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar and Bhiwandi-Nizampur, and two municipal councils of Ambernath and Kulgaon-Badlapur."

Mumbai alone contributes 11,000 tonnes of e-waste annually to 20,000 tonnes of all Maharashtra. Foreign companies who showed interest in project are Keppel Seghers Engineering ( Singapore), Intergeo ( Austria) and Kub-Berjaya Enviro ( Malaysia). This project is worth around Rs. 1080 crore. It will be made on public-private partnership.

MMRDA said that 7 municipal corporations and 13 municipal councils will make use of this landfill site. MMRDA also approached BMC to use this landfill. However Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation rejected the proposal of MMRDA with possibility of use of this site in future.
