Food inflation falls to 12.47 per cent
The yearly food inflation came down to 12.47 per cent for the week ended on July 10 as compared to previous week’s 12.81 per cent. There has been a decline in the prices of vegetables, especially of potato and onion. The price of potato has come down by more than 45 per cent over the year, while the price of onion has come down by almost 8 per cent. The overall prices of vegetables have come down by 9.92 per cent.
Meanwhile on the other hand, the cost of pulses did not come down, but instead went all the more higher by 23.79 per cent during the week as compared to the same period last year. The rate of pulses, however, has softened by 0.84 per cent in a weekly basis.
The cost of wheat also went up by 5.81 per cent in this week on a yearly basis.
Taking everything into consideration, the overall inflation rate for June closed at 10.55 per cent, which consequently led to high food prices. The rate of food inflation fell sharply to less than 13 per cent in mid-June, though it had maintained a little more than 16 per cent for most of the year.
