Flooding kills one in northern Thailand

Thailand FloodBangkok - A flash flood killed one woman in Thailand's northern province of Nan and left two others missing, relief workers said Saturday.

Heavy rainfall all day Friday caused a flash flood that hit Ban Huay Thanu village of Nan, about 500 kilometres north of Bangkok, near midnight, sweeping away Khamporn Pano, 43, whose body was found Saturday, said Adul Kaewbanchong, chief civil disaster prevention and mitigation officer in the province.

Two other women went missing after the flood, said The Nation online news service, citing Adul.

Thailand is in the midst of the monsoon season which lasts from May to October. (dpa)
