Finance Minister sets up IT advisory body

Nandan NilekaniIn order to make the full use of IT developments, the Finance Ministry has decided to set up an advisory body that will look into the host of IT initiatives taken by the government in its various plans.

The committee that will consist of seven members would be headed by the UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani.

For the finance ministry the advises would be done in the field of income tax, new pension system (NPS), and the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The name of the group will be Technology Advisory Group for Unique Projects (TAGUP) and needs to submit its report on the road map for five big projects in the coming six months time.

These five projects will cover the field of tax information network (TIN), the NPS, the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA), the expenditure information network (EIN), and the GST.

In the official statement the ministry said that the five projects in question have tremendous transformative ability and so the programs need to have high-level of efficiency. This requires the support of IT and that is why the advisory body has been formed.
