Orkut, the social networking site owned by Google has been outperformed by Facebook which now ranks as the top social networking website in most of the markets and this has been confirmed by not just one research program but many of the research reports them across the world.

Presently, Facebook has 20.9 million while Orkut had 19.9 million users.

Orkut had the grip over the social networking sector for many years since it was launched in India in 2004 but in 2009 Facebook was reported to have three times the number of followers Orkut had. Various people have switched to Facebook since it is for fun and simpler to use while Orkut is not considered very cool unlike the features of Google.

According to a study conducted by comScore, India ranks seventh in the social networking market while Germany, China and U. S remain the biggest players in this area.

Though the current number of people retrieving the internet is only about seven million, the arrival of cells phones with high speed third generation features has given a boost to the expectation of fast growing convention of internet networks.
