Social networking site, Facebook has been asked to be more accountable for the services that it provides and also to the users that use them.

Such calls were raised after pages on the site, made to pay tribute to two murdered Australian students, were attacked and de-faced.

Brisbane College students gathered together and attacked the memorial site. They wrote offensive comments and uploaded images of pornography and bestiality. The same thing happened to another site, where the picture of the alleged murderer was posted on the site of a friend of victim's parents.

After the incidents, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh appealed to the Facebook owners asking them to stop recurrence of such incidents.

Bligh wrote in a letter to Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg that such incidents have ended the whole purpose of starting such memorial sites. Rather than helping, the letter said, it has hurt the emotions of the friends of the victims.

In a reply to it, spokeswoman of Facebook, Debbie Frost said that the site already has rules regarding such offensive matter. It would soon remove the content and would disable the accounts of those involved in the cyber attacks.
