Ex-skipper contacted Bajajs and Munjals for buying IPL franchisee
After the pressure mounted on the head of Ex-Minister of State for external affairs, Shashi Tharoor and he was forced to resign from his post it has been learnt that an ex-captain of the Indian team contact various industrial houses on behalf of Shashi Tharoor for buying stake in the Kochi team.
The hunt first started with Rahul Bajaj's brother to seek Bajaj Group foray into the IPL venture but it didn't make the cut. The second on the list was the MD of Hero Honda Motors, Pawan Munjal.
Munjal also made it clear on the outset that he wasn't interested in the IPL Venture. The ex-skipper also went a UP based industrialist J P Gaur on behalf of Tharoor to convince him to enter IPL.
However, Gaur was more interested into entering with a Noida Franchisee than the Kochi team and hence the deal didn't work out as Tharoor's interest was in 'mentorship' to the franchise in the interest of Kerala, from where he is an MP.
However, the ex-skipper finally found a client in the form of the consortium called Rendezvous Sports and handful of other clients to bid for the Kochi team. However, Tharoor wasn't the only one demanding sweat equity in return but also a couple of politicians which the IT department is still trying hard to get hands on.
