Eleven people confirmed dead in Ugandan plane clashKampala  - Eleven people died Monday when a Russian-made cargo plane carrying supplies for the African Union (AU) peace keeping mission in Somalia, burst into flames and clashed into Lake Victoria soon after take-off from Uganda's Entebbe international airport, a government statement said.

An Illyushin 76-cargo aircraft F9-FAB with eleven people including four crew and seven others on board was flying from Entebbe to Mogadishu and clashed soon after take-off at 9.9 kilometers south of the airport at 5.14 am (0214 GMT), the statement from the Transport and Communications Ministry said.

The statement did not give further details of the dead crew and passengers including their nationalities but a military spokesman was earlier quoted as saying the dead included Burundian and Ugandan soldiers as well as South African nationals.

It said the aircraft was carrying tents and water purifying equipment for the AU mission in Somalia. (dpa)
