Drop in Number of Teenagers having Sex
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics has revealed a new data, which shows a decline has come over the last quarter century in the number of teenagers who have had sex.
In females aged 15 to 19, a 14% drop has been seen and in case of men, the drop is 22%. For the report, the officials used national survey data from 2011 to 2013. The new report has unveiled that 44% of female teens have reported having sex at least one time and 47% of men also stated the same.
In comparison to female teens, male teens were more likely to have sex in early teenage years. The researchers said when it came to age 17 then the rates were similar. Majority of the teenagers had used protective measures.
From 2011 to 2013, 79% of females and 84% of males said they had used contraceptive when they lose their virginity. On the basis of the data of more than 10 years, a rise has been seen in the number of teenage girls who have used emergency contraceptives.
The new report is in sync with other recent federal data that shows a decline in the US teen pregnancy and birth rate may be due to reduced sexual activity and increased use of contraceptives. The study also unveiled that teenagers prefer condoms over other contraceptives.
Age was an important factor when it came to contraceptive use. Only 77% of girls who had sex before turning 18 years old used contraceptives and 93% of females aged 18 to 9 years used contraceptives.
