Disgusted Willis says money chasing English team don’t deserve to be called England
London, Nov 1 : The England cricket team should not be called England on their misguided mission to win a huge pot of money.
That is the opinion of Bob Willis, who has been horrified at some of the antics in Antigua.
The former Test captain has watched as Kevin Pietersen’s team has become the playthings of Sir Allen Stanford — a Texan billionaire with an uncontrollable ego.
“This is the national cricket team and that should stand for dignity and prestige built up over many years. It means this 20million dollar match is a very different situation from tennis players or golfers earning a lot of money for exhibition matches,” The Sun quoted Willis, as saying.
“I don’t think the team should be called England. They should be Kevin Pietersen’s All Stars or the ECB Crackerjacks or something like that. To have the England team manipulated like this is wrong,” he said
Willis added: “The whole event seems to be a large ego trip for someone who says Test cricket is boring. This is not the English way, it is not cricket’s way. It is vulgar.” (ANI)
