Delhi Metro introduces more trains

Delhi Metro introduces more trainsConcerned over the ever-increasing crowd at the Delhi Metro, the authorities inducted 83 more Metro trains on the Central Secretariat to Jehangirpuri line 2. The new trains may help to reduce the heavy rush by making the trains less crowded.

More trains would be inducted in the Line 2 by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in coming 2-3 weeks and the number of trains at the Line3 will be increased by November this year. DMRC Managing Director, E Sreedharan, said: "On Friday DMRC introduced the first Phase II train into service. The new trains will be used to ease pressure on the existing lines. Subsequently, new lines will be commissioned.''

The ridership on Mass Rapid Transit system (MRTS) is expected to increase almost 2.5 times the present ridership, after the completion of Phase-2. Delhi Metro is also planning to introduce longer six-coach trains to cater to the growing load and to tackle overcrowding.

Commuters entering from the next station at Patel Chowk hailed DMRC efforts with a regular commuter, Ankita Agarwal saying: "This new train looks good. The air- conditioning is amazing and now I don't feel the jerks when the train stops at stations.''
