Deepa Mehta’s ‘Videsh - Heaven On Earth’ To Hit Indian Theatres Today!
Videsh - Heaven On Earth is ready to release in India today.
The film, which is directed by multi-talented Deepa Mehta, has already hit theatres in Europe and the US despite the widespread talks in industry that Preity Zinta starrer is based on domestic violence and draws wide resemblance to Bachchan’s bahu starrer ‘Provoked’, which released in 2007.
Mehta however has now found the answer to this question.
She clarified the air stating that it is just a fallacy that her film is based on the same concept as ‘Jag Mundra’ directed Provoked.
She said, “This question has been with us since before we started making the film. But I will answer it till people watch the film and get rid of this misconception.”
The movie is not similar to Provoked, and there is a big difference in the story of the film.
She said that it is like saying all the stories dealing with love are the same; they are not.
She said that domestic cruelty is a part of ‘Heaven On Earth’ that is a meaty film regarding what it is like for working class immigrants to leave their land and all other things that they have experienced, leave their surroundings, their complete relations and go to an unknown place.
She added that the film is about young women, who comes from a small Indian village and settled in Canada after her marriage.
The pair has no support from their in-laws.
The picture of Videsh is immigration and the loneliness that immigrants undergo. Mistreatment doesn’t subsist by itself; it has a social framework and the milieu of Videsh is really different from that of Provoked.
