`David’ Haye takes WBA title away from Russian `Goliath’ Valuev
London, Nov. 8 : London-based Davide Haye produced the greatest performance since Goliath was slain to wrench the WBA world heavyweight title from the seven feet two inch tall Russian Nikolai Valuev.
Haye produced a boxing master class to fulfill his promise in Nuremberg.
Judges Tom Miller and Stefano Carozza gave it to Haye 116-112 while Juan Reyes Garcia made the nerve-filled scrap a 114-114 draw.
Haye, 29, looked a clear winner using the ring brilliantly against his rival, who was an amazing seven stone heavier.
Valuev finished the fight an exhausted man having been badly hurt and wobbled in the final round.
But the Bermondsey powerhouse, who won for the 23rd time in 24 fights, revealed he battled through most of the fight with a suspected broken right hand after cracking the giant Russian''s skull in the second round.
Haye was relaxed about emulating Bob Fitzsimmons, Lennox Lewis, Henry Akinwande, Herbie Hide and Frank Bruno.
Valuev, 36, dismissed Haye as an "idiot" during the build-up to the colossal clash. (ANI)
