Cyclone Hudhud: PM Modi chairs high-level meeting in Vishakhapatnam

narendra modiVishakhapatnam, Oct 14 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and senior other officials to take stock of the damage inflicted by Cyclone Hudhud.

"The entire nation and the government are with the people of Andhra and Vizag. The Andhra government and the central government have worked with perfect coordination over the last five days," Prime Minister Modi told the media after the meeting.

Praising the Indian Metrological Department (IMD), the Prime Minister said, "The weather department has made accurate use of technology. They had given the forecast of cyclone well in advance."

"We have given priority to the restoration of electricity, water and communication services. Although the surveys and estimates are yet to be made, as interim assistance, the Government of India will release Rs 1,000 crores for relief work. More funds will be released after the surveys are completed," he added.

Prime Minister Modi also announced a package of Rs two lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi had arrived in Vishakhapatnam to review the rescue and relief work in the wake of Cyclone Hudhud's devastation in the state, which has left at least 24 people dead. (ANI)
