Congress legislators to elect new leader in Arunachal PradeshItanagar, Oct 24 : Newly elected legislators of the Congress party are meeting here on Saturday afternoonto elect the leader of the party’s legislature wing.

Incumbent Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu seemed to be a frontrunner for the post.

Speaking to media, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Nabam Tuki said: "The CLP meeting will be held tomorrow (Saturday) to elect the new chief minister. All the 42 Congress MLAs are expected to reach Itanagar by this morning.”

On Thursday, Congress secured a two-thirds majority in the 60-member assembly by winning 42 seats.

Senior party leader and former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, Luizinho Faleiro and V Narayansami would attend the CLP meeting as central observers.

Khandu, a Monapa Buddhist leader who became the Chief Minister in April 2007 following a uprising against the then Chief Minister Gegong Apang indicated his readiness to continue for another term as Chief Minister. (ANI)
