Delhi-Gurgaon expressway now offers toll-free rideCommuters can finally travel on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway for free without suffering huge traffic snarls at toll plazas as the expressway has been made toll-free.

The Delhi-Gurgaon expressway which links the national capital and the satellite town in Haryana is used by lakhs of commuters daily. The Gurgaon toll plaza had been a major traffic bottleneck on the busy expressway.

Panipat-Jalandhar-highwayNew Delhi, June 12 : The Supreme Court Wednesday suspended the Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to take over 291-km Panipat-Jalandhar highway project as buiders had failed to complete it within the scheduled time.

Suspending the operation of the high court order till the hearing of the matter July 23, a bench of Justice Gyan Sudha Misra and Justice Madan B. Lokur issued notice to the central and Haryana governments, the National Highway Authority of India and others.

GVK has walked out of a major four-laning of the existing two-lane Shivpuri-Dewas highway in Madhya Pradesh. The NHAI had awarded the contract to GVK in January last year.

The four-laning of the 332.46 kilometer highway was to be constructed in 30 months, and it was offered on a concession period of around three decades.

New measures will be introduced on the expressway to improve traffic conditions after a series of disagreements and an order to cancel the contract itself. The NHAI had issued an order terminating the contract with Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd (DGSCL). The authority has informed the Delhi High Court that it is withdrawing the order after reaching an agreement with the contractor.

NHAI plans to award contracts worth 15,000 crore next fiscalThe National Highways Authority of India has announced that it is planning to award construction orders worth up to 15,000 crore in the next financial year.

The new plans moves away from its strategy of awarding projects through the public-private partnership model. JN Singh, member-finance, NHAI said that the authority is planning to award engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) orders for 2,000-3,000 km of roads in the next fiscal year, 2012-13.

NHAI need to borrow Rs.64,000 crore for projects

National-Highways-Authority-of-IndiaTo be able to finance its road projects, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is estimated to be needing an additional funding of Rs.64,000 crore to be able to meet its targets.

The deadline for these projects is 2030-31, and a fund of Rs. 1.92 lakh crore was already allocated to the NHAI for this purpose.
