Chelsea striker Drogba facing FA action over coin throw

Chelsea striker Drogba facing FA action over coin throwLondon - Didier Drogba was facing up to the probability Thursday that he will be charged by the Football Association after admitting throwing an object into the crowd during Chelsea's Carling Cup defeat to Burnley.

The Chelsea striker scored his first goal of the season after 27 minutes and, as he celebrated, an object - believed to be a coin - was thrown onto the pitch.

Drogba then seemed to gesture, before returning the coin into the bank of away fans at the Shed End of the ground.

He was shown a yellow card for his actions.

"This is something I want to make clear," Drogba said. "I tried to celebrate the goal and I received some things at me.

"The big mistake I did was to throw it back so if someone was hurt, I just want to apologize for it.

"This is not something I should show in a football match and I want to apologize.

"It was an incident in the heat of the moment and I regret it. It was just a mistake and nothing more."

Burnley went on to equalize through Adi Akinbiyi, before winning a penalty shoot-out. (dpa)
