Chavan says Congress will take action against rebels within two days
Mumbai, Sep. 30 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Tuesday announced that the Congress would take action against party rebels within two days.
Congress rebels from some constituencies withdrew their nominations from the upcoming assembly election.
From the Kavthe Mahankal constituency, Congress rebel Ajit Ghorpade withdrew providing respite to NCP nominee and former Home Minister RR Patil.
In Kudal seat of Konkan region, party rebel Pushpasen Sawant pulled out of the election fray, declaring his support to congress candidate and Industry Minister Narayan Rane.
However, despite concerted efforts by senior Congress leaders, rebel Maharashtra Minister Sunil Deshmukh refused to withdraw his candidature for the assembly election from Amravati seat where he takes on Rajendrasinh Shekhawat, President Pratibha Patil’s son.
The deadline for withdrawal of nominations has already ended. (ANI)
