Cause of damage from Huntington’s disease ‘discovered’
A recent study by scientists has found out the cause of damage from Huntington's. This is a significant discovery, having the potential capability to provide remedies for the genetic disease.
So far, the Huntington's disease is a genetic disease without cure, and whose symptoms are a steady decline in the motor control and the non-functioning and destruction of brain cells. For long doctors have been struggling to find the cause of this disease.
However, now it has been discovered that the behavior of the mutant protein "huntingtin" is what reportedly causes the Huntington's disease. The study has also shown that the accumulation of the damaging proteins leads to the steady decline of the brain.
Availing the latest technologies scientists studied the human mutant "huntingtin" proteins and how they accumulate into large clumps, ultimately destroying brain cells and causing the progressed Huntington's disease.
Previously, it was presumed that the accumulation of the mutated proteins damaged human cells, but it was not verified under the microscope. It has been very difficult to determine how the process of cell destruction takes place or how to stop the ultimate death of the brain cells.
