California homes 'buzzed' by Jets
Witnesses have said that two jets described as U. S. Navy F-18s flew dangerously low over San Jose, Calif., houses, making deafening noise and scaring residents.
The San Jose Mercury News reported on Thursday that the aircraft shook windows Wednesday night, set off house alarms and unnerved homeowners in downtown neighborhoods.
David Vossbrink, spokesman for Mineta San Jose International Airport, said, "It was very strange."
This was not the only incident of this kind.
KHTS-AM, Santa Clarita, has reported that on May 4, two jets buzzed Santa Clarita, Calif., creating the same type of havoc.
The radio station also said that the Flight ID for those aircraft was Jeste02 and JSTer02. They were F-16s, which only the military operates. A representative from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., denied the planes were theirs.
Witnesses reported seeing the planes performing barrel rolls.
KHTS further reported that Ian Gregor, Communications Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration Western-Pacific Region, said in an email, "FAA regulations state that pilots cannot perform aerobatics (loops, rolls etc.) over populated areas or below 1,500 feet altitude over unpopulated areas. However, FAA regulations do not apply to military operations." (With Inputs from Agencies)
