Bridegroom and father taken captives by in-laws for duping
Badayun (Uttar Pradesh), May 2 : A bridegroom and his father were held captives by the bride’s parents on the ground that the jewellery given by the bridegroom was artificial!
The incident took place at Loha Baheri Village in Uttar Pradesh’s Badayun District after it was noticed that at the time of departure of the bride and bridegroom that the assorted jewellery gifted to the bride had been replaced with the artificial jewellery.
As when the bride’s family learnt about it, the bridegroom Dharmender Kumar along with his father Ghasiram were not allowed to leave the venue by the newly-wed girl’s family.
Brides’ family allegedly beat Dharmender’s father in captivity.
Meanwhile, the bridegroom Dharmender, however, claimed innocence and unaware of entire episode regarding the replacement of the artificial trinklets.
"All of us came here with the Barat (groom's retinue). My mother took the chain and the wedding ring that they (bride's family) presented to me. I didn't know that the jewellery was artificial," said Dharmendra Kumar, the bridegroom.
Dharmendra’s father Ghasiram, however, said it could be possible that boy’s mother might have brought the artificial trinklets, which triggered quarrel between the two sides.
"We came to Baheri village along with the our relatives from Agra. The marriage was solemnised with full pomp and show. In the morning, when the Barat reached here, they welcomed us warmly. After the marriage, the bride’s family said the jewellery that we gave her was artificial. We didn't know that the jewellery was artificial. My wife bought the jewellery," said Ghasiram, the bridegroom's father.
Though the bridegroom’s other relatives escaped from the venue anticipating trouble, they allegedly took away all the gifts and other belongings given by the bride's family in dowry.
Bride Kushmala’s father, Atal Singh has blamed the bridegroom’s side of cheating them. The Panchayat also failed to resolve the matter and hence they have been held captives.
The bride's family has warned that the bridegroom’ close relatives would not be allowed to leave the bride’s place until they part with rupees 1.75 lakhs spent on the wedding ceremony.
Interestingly, none of the family members from both sides registered any police complaint of the incident. (ANI)
