Big Blue adds new social-networking tools and services to DeveloperWorksThe multinational computer technology & IT consulting company – IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) has introduced social technology enhancements to its popular networking site for IT professionals – DeveloperWorks. The Big Blue has added new social-networking tools and services to DeveloperWorks, to allow software developers to work collectively on open standards-based innovations, share profiles, communicate, and find people of similar professional interests.   

The Big Blue has converged social computing technologies and professional networking in its DeveloperWorks. The site used by over a million IT professionals worldwide, DeveloperWorks now features several social-networking tools and services.

According to the Big Blue, the DeveloperWorks has been upgraded to offer software developers, real-time access to key technology updates, and to connect software developers with other professionals from around the world.

IBM has integrated new social-networking tools and services with DeveloperWorks, on the basis of the findings of a recent IBM survey on how software developers use online resources to develop new skills and innovations. In the IBM survey, about 75% developers reported that they used forums, blogs, wikis, and online newsletters to develop new skills and communicate with other professionals, and 65% reported that they intend to use social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace to develop new skills and communicate with people of same professions.     

IBM has reported that the users will now be able to customize their My DeveloperWorks profiles to include contacts, preferred content, real time feeds from forums, blogs and wikis, and the IBM's developerWorks site. IBM has also announced to integrate My developerWorks profiles with social networking sites such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, in the next few months. IBM has announced to expand professional networks of DeveloperWorks to help pros collaborate on new technologies. The Big Blue's Lotus Connections already has the social-networking and collaboration model.
